Dayton Audio UMII10-22 10" Dual-Voice-Coil Subwoofer Driver
Review
Package contents: the UMII10-22 10-inch dual-voice-coil subwoofer driver (2 ohms per coil). The radiator is a rigid woven carbon fiber cone that balances low mass with stiffness for quick transient response and accurate bass reproduction.
A substantial aluminum shorting cap and matching sleeve minimize inductance variation to suppress distortion across the operating range. The motor assembly and frame incorporate extensive venting to promote airflow and help dissipate heat during heavy use, reducing power compression and improving reliability.
The driver uses a 4-layer, 2.5-inch flat-wound voice coil engineered to withstand up to 600 watts RMS. Dual spiders center and stabilize the cone assembly, preserving linear motion even at very large excursions. With an xmax of ±20 mm, the unit is able to move a lot of air for deep, impactful bass.
While optimized for compact sealed enclosures to deliver tight, controlled low end, the UMII10-22 also extends deeply in well-tuned vented cabinets. It’s designed for custom speaker builds and pro installers who need a compact driver that can handle serious power and excursion.
Pros
- High ±20 mm excursion for deep bass
- Stiff, lightweight carbon-fiber cone for clarity
- Robust 4-layer 2.5" voice coil rated to 600W RMS
Cons
- Requires adequate DSP/tuning to reach full potential
- Heavy motor and frame add weight
- Driver only — enclosure and grille sold separately
VerdictA compact, high-excursion 10" driver that delivers authoritative low end in both sealed and ported enclosures. The carbon-fiber cone and sizable shorting cap reduce distortion, while the 4-layer voice coil and generous motor venting keep temperatures and power compression in check. Great for DIY systems where punch, excursion, and reliability matter.

Reveals musical bass
Upgraded from a decent entry-level sub and the difference is real. This driver has the excursion and control to present bass notes as intended. Would prefer a dual-coil 4 Ω option for my amp, though.

Solid upgrade to an old driver
Replaced a blown, lesser-quality driver in a commercial ported cabinet. This unit is noticeably heavier and better built. Performance improved after a few hours of break-in; bass tightened and became more present.

Best value for deep lows
For the money this is one of the best drivers for chest-thumping low end and extension. Not an SPL monster, but it plays loudly and clean. Tuned to 29Hz in my box it produces impressive, full lows.

Reliable in trunk install
Used for car audio in an infinite-baffle/trunk setup. No mechanical noises and continues to perform well after months of use. Sounds fantastic in my application.

A well-kept secret
Very low distortion even when pushed. It sounds great in a prefab ported box—musical, solid build quality, and clearer on the top end than some competitors.

Absolutely killer performance
I'm blown away by this driver. Living with someone running big sealed 15s made me skeptical, but this unit digs deep and stays controlled. Paired with a strong amp and the right DSP it absolutely destroys expectations for a compact driver. It handles lots of power without distress and sounds fantastic on DIY enclosures.

Great looking and sounding
Excellent sound after proper break-in. I followed recommended sealed enclosure specs and used a compatible amp—initially a bit subdued but it opened up after a few days. Strong value for DIY builders.

Handles power, sounds excellent
Impressed with power handling and tonal quality—better low-frequency response than I expected for an 8–10" class driver. Would buy again without hesitation.
