U-Shaped Arclight Curved Reflector (75 x 40 cm) — Portrait Lighting Tool
Review
This U-shaped clamshell reflector is built to shape light in portrait sessions, mimicking the curve of the human eye to throw a crescent-shaped catchlight that adds sparkle to the subject’s eyes. The reflective fabric is suitable for use with strobes, monolights, LED panels, and natural sunlight, and the curved surface helps reduce harsh shadows while blending light from multiple directions.
The frame pieces include two curved tubes and two sturdy metal rods that slide through sewn rod pockets to tension the reflector. Assembly requires no separate tools — the rods and tubes slot together quickly and screw knobs secure connections so the fabric is held taut and smooth across the arc.
A swivel stand mount attaches to the back of the frame and allows you to tilt the reflector up or down to aim the bounce precisely. Screw knobs on the mount clamp to a light stand for stable positioning (note: light stand not included). This setup makes it straightforward to lock in the angle you need for consistent catchlights and fill.
The U-shaped reflector has two primary surfaces: a silver face for higher-contrast, directional bounce and a black face to cut unwanted spill. A double-sided cover (gold on one side, white on the other) provides warmer or neutral fill options; the cover fastens with self-adhesive tabs so you can switch looks quickly on set.
Dimensions: approximately 30" x 18" (75 x 40 cm). Package contents include 1 reflector (black + silver), 2 curved tubes, 2 metal rods, 1 swivel stand mount, 1 double-sided cover (gold + white), and 1 padded carrying bag. Materials are a reflective fabric shell, aluminum or similar metal tubing for the frame, metal rods and screw knobs, plus a soft nylon carry case for transport.
Pros
- Produces natural-looking crescent catchlights
- Multiple reflective surfaces for versatile shaping
- Tool-free frame assembly and included swivel mount
Cons
- Can be fiddly and time-consuming to assemble
- Light stand is not supplied
- Awkward to store when fully assembled
VerdictA practical, budget-friendly arclight reflector for studio and on-location portrait work. It creates attractive crescent catchlights and evens shadow detail, works with strobes, monolights, LEDs, or daylight, and includes a swivel mount and carry bag. Assembly is tool-free but can be fiddly; it doesn’t include a light stand and the frame can be awkward to store fully assembled.

Good build but stand not included
Build quality is decent. It does not include a tripod or light stand, so plan for that. Setup can be slow if you break it down each time, but it transports fine without disassembly if you have a roomy vehicle. Overall I recommend it.

Ideal for headshot photographers
Works well for headshots and includes different reflector covers. I prefer the white cover to avoid harsh highlights; silver can be strong and gold may warm teeth. Assembly takes a few minutes but the results are worth it.

Great results, frustrating handling
This makes my portraits look cinematic and more alive, but the shape is awkward to store and it doesn’t break down easily. I’ve nicked my finger taking it apart, and one of the metal tubes cracked under light pressure. Given its function, sturdier tubing and simpler disassembly would improve it.

Compact, sturdy and effective
Smaller than I expected but does a very good job filling shadows under the chin. Convenient size for small studios and offices. Solid build.

Better alternative to pricier brands
I bought this after watching comparisons to higher-end arclight reflectors. It arrived quickly and fixes a couple common complaints: assembly is faster since there are no threaded pole connections, and overall it’s much more affordable than similar branded units. Works well on location and in the studio; I kept it after trying it out.

Outstanding catch‑light tool
I used to have an assistant hold reflectors; this mount removes that variable. For the cost this is an excellent value. I wish it folded flatter for storage — I usually keep it assembled and rarely use the travel bag. There are a few small parts to manage on set, but performance is great.
