E-liu Unglazed Porcelain Mortar and Pestle Set with Bamboo Lid
Review
This set includes one unglazed porcelain mortar, a long-handled pestle with a bamboo handle, and a bamboo lid that doubles as a coaster. The porcelain interior is intentionally rough to help grind and crush dry tablets, seeds, spices, and small amounts of wet mixtures like pesto or salsa. The exterior of the mortar is finished smooth to make wiping and cleaning straightforward.
Materials are focused on durability and sustainability: the bowl is crafted from heavy unglazed porcelain for an abrasive grinding surface, while the pestle handle and the lid/coaster are made from sustainably sourced bamboo. The mortar measures 4.7 inches in diameter and 1.9 inches high; the pestle is 4.9 inches long, giving good leverage for controlled grinding.
Use this tool for preparing dry rubs and marinades, breaking down supplements or pills, releasing oils in whole spices, or making small batches of guacamole, hummus, or dressings. The mortar itself is marked dishwasher-safe, but to prolong the life and finish of both pieces it’s recommended to hand-wash the pestle and the bamboo parts with mild detergent and dry promptly.
Pros
- Effective abrasive surface for grinding
- Compact size ideal for countertop use
- Includes bamboo lid that doubles as a coaster
Cons
- Unglazed surface can develop stains
- Porcelain may chip or break if dropped
- Pestle handle and bamboo need hand-washing
VerdictA well-made, versatile mortar and pestle that balances function and appearance. The unglazed porcelain bowl provides the abrasive surface needed to pulverize pills, spices, and herb blends, while the bamboo-handled pestle and matching lid/coaster add a sustainable, tidy touch. It’s sturdy enough for everyday kitchen tasks yet compact enough to sit on the counter. Expect some surface staining over

Solid, efficient porcelain grinder
Sturdy and well-made porcelain. The coarse interior quickly breaks down pills, spices, and herbs. The pestle sits comfortably in hand and grinds with little effort. Easy to clean and stable during use—versatile for dry ingredients and small seeds.

Elegant look for the price
Very elegant and classy-looking despite being affordable. More stylish than bulky stone grinders and makes a nice gift.

Kitchen staple I keep returning to
I bought this years ago and it was fantastic. I used it for grinding seasonings and fresh ginger for tea. It handled medicinal grinding too. When I return to more cooking I’ll buy another without hesitation.

Looks great and works well, but it can stain
Very attractive and the wooden lid is handy as a cover or stand. It’s lighter than stone alternatives yet solid. Don’t expect it to be stain-proof—unglazed porcelain will show color from strong ingredients, but performance stays excellent.

Good for small tasks, limited for larger batches
Works well but a bit small if you want to make guacamole for several people.

Thorough research led me here — very effective
I compared marble, granite, porcelain and metal options and this porcelain set handled my hard supplements best. I place a hand over the rim to keep bits contained, tap tablets to fracture them, then grind to powder. The bamboo base steadies the bowl. The pestle is lightweight but does the job; a heavier stone pestle will get a finer powder, yet this works reliably. Stains may remain after cleaning but don’t affect use.
