Ceramic Mortar and Pestle Set — 150 mL Deep Bowl with Pour Spout
Review
What you receive: one 150 mL ceramic mortar and one matching pestle designed as a complete set for grinding, crushing, and mixing small quantities of solids.
Construction and finish: the bowl is ceramic with an unglazed interior surface and an unglazed pestle tip to create a rough texture that improves friction and makes pulverizing powders, herbs, and tablets more efficient. The exterior of the mortar is glazed — except for the footprint on the bottom — to aid cleaning and resist wear. The result is a balance between a functional grinding surface and an easy-to-maintain outer finish.
Design details and dimensions: the mortar is a deep-form bowl with relatively high sides and a built-in pour spout to help transfer contents without spilling. The 150 mL capacity and compact footprint make it suitable for countertop or bench use where space is limited. The pestle is sized to match the bowl and concentrate force on the exposed grinding tip.
Thermal and lab suitability: this ceramic set tolerates temperatures up to about 1050°C, exhibits low thermal expansion and good resistance to sudden temperature changes, and is compatible with autoclave sterilization. These properties make it appropriate for both kitchen tasks (spices, herbs, pills) and small-scale laboratory work (powdered reagents and compound mixing).
Intended uses: ideal as a pill crusher, spice grinder, herb preparation bowl, or small-scale mixing vessel for powdered chemicals. Its compact size and durable ceramic build make it a practical choice for home cooks, pharmacists, herbalists, lab technicians, and classroom demonstrations.

Excellent small mortar
Very good little mortar.

Simple and exactly right
This exceeded my expectations. Size and performance were spot on — big enough to use comfortably but not bulky. I could have chosen a smaller size, but then the pestle would’ve been awkward to hold. A great, affordable option.

Works perfectly for medications
I needed something to crush pills occasionally and this does the job perfectly. I’ll pick a different one for herbs, but for medications it’s ideal and very effective.

Finish description was misleading
The listing said the item was glazed, but only the outside and the top of the pestle are glazed. The actual working surfaces are unglazed, which in my case makes the product unsuitable for how I intended to use it.

Reliable weekly spice grinder
I use this several times a week for spices and it’s been excellent. After other mortars and electric grinders failed me, this one proved compact, lightweight, and efficient. It’s big enough for most recipe needs but not for very large batches like pesto or chocolate work. The bowl grips spices well and the tall sides keep bits from scattering. I would prefer a slightly shorter or flatter-ended pestle for a more comfortable palm fit, but overall it performs superbly.

Better control than an electric grinder
My mother always used a mortar for pepper and cumin; I finally got one and love the control. You can grind tiny amounts to any coarseness. Larger batches take more effort but it’s versatile. The porous surface can be tricky to rinse completely, so I rinse and then wipe dry — fine for spice use. Very pleased with it.

Great lightweight alternative to heavy mortars
Bought to grind spices and herbs; we already have a heavy molcajete for guacamole but wanted something lighter for fine grinding. This was a terrific compromise — easier to handle and the right size. My only complaint is the bowl’s internal shape has subtle edges, so the pestle doesn’t make perfect contact in every position.

Handy for pet meds
Arrived quickly and well packed. Beautiful set that’s perfect for grinding my dogs’ pills — the vet recommended crushing and mixing into food. Outside is glazed and the inside unglazed by design; my previous set was the same until it broke. Happy to have this replacement.

Comparable to pricier kitchen versions
Bought this looking for value and found it matches the more expensive version from the cooking section. Works great for my needs. The unpolished bottom can show discoloration, but I’ve not noticed flavor carryover and the rough surface actually speeds grinding.
