Dayton Audio Classic CS1200 12" Powered Subwoofer — 200W Class-D
Review
Adds low end to any speaker system: The Classic CS1200 pairs with bookshelf or floorstanding speakers to supply the deep bass foundation movies and music require. The driver is a 12‑inch woofer built into a rigid, braced cabinet designed to minimize panel resonances and unwanted coloration.
Amplification and construction: A 200W Class‑D amplifier drives the woofer, giving strong, focused bass with minimal distortion. The enclosure uses reinforced panels and a black finish; a black grille ships with the unit and can be swapped for other grille colors sold separately.
Connections and controls: Hookup options include stereo RCA, LFE, and speaker‑level inputs to fit most receiver and amp setups. The sub features an auto‑on function and easy-to-use level, crossover, and phase controls for quick tuning to your room and speakers.
Use and support: Designed for home theater and music playback, the CS1200 works best when you spend a little time on placement and crossover settings. It’s covered by a five‑year warranty for long‑term reliability and was engineered with input from U.S. designers.
Pros
- Tight, well controlled bass from a 200W Class‑D amp
- Multiple inputs (RCA, LFE, speaker‑level) for flexible hookup
- Sturdy, braced cabinet and swappable grille
Cons
- Limited factory grille color options
- Auto‑on trigger level may require adjustment
- Not as physically impactful as much larger subs
VerdictThe Classic CS1200 is a compact but capable 12" powered sub that adds a solid low-frequency foundation to both music and home theater rigs. Its 200W Class‑D amplifier and stiff, braced cabinet produce controlled, non‑boomy bass when positioned and tuned correctly. Connectivity is flexible — LFE, stereo RCA, and speaker‑level inputs are included — and the simple controls plus auto‑on make setup str

Very Happy — Great Value and Easy Setup
Paired this with a matching speaker kit and it fills a large living room nicely. Controls are straightforward and setup was painless. Overall a terrific value for the performance it delivers.

CS1000 — Near‑Perfect 10" Sub for My 5.1 System
I installed the 10" Classic in a 5.1 setup driven by a Yamaha AVR with Polk fronts and a Klipsch center. It adds the missing low end without overwhelming the speakers. At about 40% gain it’s relaxed, at 50% you feel sub‑bass without domination, and at 65% it delivers deep, impactful lows. I avoid anything past ~85% to keep from introducing boominess, but even high settings stay clean with little distortion.

Great Sound from a Dependable Maker
Dayton consistently makes excellent value products. Their subs produce the low octaves with clarity and tightness that often outperforms pricier units. Built with quality parts and backed by solid support, these subs pair well with the Classic speaker line to create a system that sounds far above its cost.

Good for Movies, Requires Careful Music Tuning
Solidly built and capable of impactful LFE for movie soundtracks, but complex or sustained low‑frequency music can make it sound boomy. It handles kicks and effects well, but you'll want to lower gain or adjust crossover for bass‑heavy music to avoid resonance and muddiness.

Perfect Fit for Tight Spaces — 8" Compact Sub
Not going to shatter windows, but this compact 8" fits neatly under my coffee table and fills the gap my system had. Hooked up via RCA to an older Yamaha receiver, it adds clear low end and the auto‑on feature is very convenient. Feels well made and does exactly what I needed in a small footprint.

Excellent Replacement for an Older 8" Sub
I replaced an aging 8" and chose the Dayton 10" for my computer/TV room paired with an older Yamaha receiver and Klipsch shelves. It surprised me with musical low end that stays clean rather than boomy. Build quality is solid and it performs well for music, gaming and streaming.

One‑Week with This 8" Performer
This small sub is built like a tank and looks good. I run the volume about one‑third and it still delivers the expected punch for a 150W rating. My room is roughly 12x20 with large openings, so results may vary, but it was enough to rattle items and required me to damp a few rattles. LFE and L/R inputs both worked fine; I switched to L/R to use the sub’s crossover.

Solid 12" Unit — Needs Some Placement and Tuning
Nice 12" sub that filled my living room and adjacent kitchen. It was boomy out of the box, but careful placement, crossover adjustment, and delay fixed that. The sub’s crossover felt lower than the knob indicated, so I used the amplifier’s crossover instead. I use it mostly for music with some movies; it won’t slam like a huge model but provides satisfying room‑filling bass.
