Static‑Cling Blackout Window Film — Room Darkening, 17.5 x 78.7 in
Review
What you get: a single roll of opaque, room‑darkening window film measuring 17.5 x 78.7 inches. The sheet is manufactured from a durable, opaque vinyl with a static‑cling backing so it adheres to glass without any glue or chemical adhesive.
Light and UV control: the film is engineered to block most incoming daylight and to reject 100% of UV rays, protecting skin and interior surfaces from sun damage while creating a darker indoor environment—useful for nurseries, night‑shift sleeping areas, or media rooms.
Privacy and limitations: this film increases privacy by obscuring views into the room during the day. It is intended for single‑pane or regular interior glass; do not apply on sealed, double‑pane windows as thermal stress may cause cracking.
Adhesive-free application: because the product clings by static, there’s no sticky residue when removed—ideal for rentals or temporary installs. The film is removable and repositionable if you need to adjust placement.
Installation recommendations: clean the glass thoroughly, including corners and edges, to remove dust or grease. Spray both the window and the film with soapy water to allow sliding and alignment. Apply the sheet, squeegee out trapped water and air toward the edges, then trim excess with scissors or a sharp utility blade. Leave a small margin around the edges to help push out bubbles and allow for a snug finish.
Pros
- Blocks light and 100% UV
- No adhesive — removable static cling
- Simple DIY installation
Cons
- Not suitable for double‑pane windows
- May require multiple strips for wide windows
- Adhesion can be unreliable on some older glass
VerdictThis static‑cling blackout film delivers strong privacy and effective light/UV reduction in an easy, removable format. It’s a good, budget‑friendly option for bedrooms, nurseries, shift workers or renters who want darker rooms without curtains or drilling. Preparation and careful trimming matter: you may need multiple strips for wide windows, and adhesion can be fussy on some older frames. Avoid a

Colour issues
I bought this because of the photos, but my roll looked faded and the colors were uneven. It does stick well enough. I knocked off two stars due to the cost and the color variance.

Good overall, minor issue
I like it and it seems to work well. It clings without glue. I ordered black and can’t say yet if it reduces heat since it’s not warm season, but I expect it will.

So cute!
A little tedious to fit, but the end result is lovely. Adds a cozy pop of color and makes a subtle rainbow when sunlight hits. Helps with privacy too.

Charming and durable
Super cute and straightforward to apply. It didn’t throw the bright rainbow I expected, but it gives a pleasant daytime glow. Instructions were clear and it took under ten minutes. Still fine after about two years.

Elegant and well made
Easy to apply and holding up nicely. I use it in the bathroom where the lower glass was visible from outside. Cut with scissors to final size, razor trims can snag the texture. Use enough water and press bubbles out with a flat tool. Stays attached well.

Pretty and practical
I love how it looks and it was easy to put up. I can open the blinds for daylight yet keep privacy. The roll wasn’t wide enough so I used two vertical pieces — worked great. This is my second roll.

Stained‑glass feel
Nice appearance inside and out, keeps daylight while improving privacy. Manageable to install solo on large windows. A bit pricey for big panes but worth it; easy to cut to shape with a box cutter. Photo shows outside view at night with a lamp on.

Quality and pretty rainbow
Absolutely love it. Super easy to apply—great for rentals since it just needs water to stick. Thick, easy to cut, and casts a beautiful rainbow in direct sun.

Just what I expected
Bonito diseño, fácil instalación y transparencia discreta. Lo puse en una puerta y ya no fue necesario colocar cortinas; se ve muy bien con el sol de la mañana.

Lovely effect
Very easy to apply — I mismeasured but it’s not noticeable. Sunlight creates a pretty rainbow inside. At night with indoor lights it’s not totally opaque unless someone is very close. Overall satisfied.

Good for privacy, trims matter
Used four rolls for family room windows; had to join two for the big middle pane. Measuring and trimming took the most time. Application with soapy water and a squeegee worked well. A tiny piece of backing left on one area prevented adhesion until I found and removed it.

Started peeling quickly
Within 12 hours about a third came unstuck even though I followed the directions, so I removed two stars. Might be the old windows in my house. Planning to try on replacement windows next—had high hopes for a five‑star result.
