MORA Ceramic Matte Plates, 7.8 in — Set of 6 Small Dinner Plates
Review
A thoughtfully named collection — “Mora” takes its cue from the Latin for “pause,” a small reminder to slow down and savor a meal. This listing is for a set of six 7.8-inch ceramic plates intended for salads, appetizers, desserts or small dinners, designed to bring a calm, rustic-modern feel to the table.
Each plate is made from reinforced Paladin Clay, a proprietary formulation that the maker says is about 20% stronger than standard ceramic bodies. That extra strength helps the pieces resist chips and handle daily use while still feeling substantial in the hand. The profile is shaped to stack and nest neatly in kitchen cabinets, saving space and presenting food attractively.
The finish is an all-natural, lead-free crystallized matte glaze. Because the glaze contains natural elements, the final color can shift subtly under different lighting and from batch to batch, so each plate has a slightly unique appearance. You may also notice light brown speckles or other handmade character in the surface.
The glaze is formulated for scratch resistance — tested to withstand typical knife and fork contact under moderate pressure. Note that dark streaks can appear from certain silverware; these are metal residue marks rather than actual gouges. Those marks can usually be removed using gentle cleaning methods described by the maker.
For practical use, the plates are labeled microwave-, oven-, freezer- and dishwasher-safe, allowing flexible preparation and cleanup. The base of the plates is intentionally left unfinished to improve grip on surfaces, which helps prevent sliding while in use but may be abrasive on delicate tabletops unless you use a cloth or placemat.
Packaging is designed to protect the set during transit and the brand offers a straightforward replacement or refund policy for defective items. Customer service is available to resolve issues and ensure you’re satisfied with your purchase.
Overall, these plates prioritize a mix of durability, everyday usefulness and a soft, artisanal aesthetic that works across casual and slightly dressed-up tablescapes.
Pros
- Durable Paladin Clay construction (about 20% stronger)
- Lead-free crystallized matte glaze resists everyday scratches
- Safe for oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher
Cons
- Unglazed bottoms can abrade delicate tabletops
- Natural glaze may vary in color and show light speckling
- Metal residue from flatware can leave marks that need cleaning
VerdictThese 7.8-inch ceramic plates blend durable construction with a restrained, artisanal appearance. The lead-free, crystallized matte glaze resists everyday scratching and gives each piece a slightly unique hue depending on lighting. Built from Paladin Clay that’s treated to be about 20% stronger than typical ceramics, the plates are oven-, microwave-, freezer- and dishwasher-safe for real-life conv

Design update noted
We already own many plates from this brand and ordered more, only to find a new finish. The new pieces are glossier, a bit lighter and have a higher rim. The company confirmed it’s a design change aimed at durability; I prefer the original look but will watch how the new ones hold up.

Ideal for farmhouse style
I hunted for a neutral, pottery-style set and bought several pieces from this line: dinner plates, the 7.8-inch plates, bowls and mugs. They have the look I wanted and feel substantial. I chose vanilla white to match my other serving pieces, and the set has held up well in regular use.

Elegant and distinct
Beautiful, European-inspired look with light brown speckles that make each piece unique. They’re stable when cutting, but the unglazed base can scratch fine tabletops, so I use a cloth underneath.
